Most Massachusetts residents believe that climate change is bringing more frequent or more severe storms and that Massachusetts is prepared to deal with the effects, according to a new poll released by the State House News Service. The WBUR poll results, released Wednesday afternoon, show that only 24% believe climate change is not affecting storms that hit Massachusetts, while 65% said climate change is bringing more frequent or severe storms.

Fifty-three percent of those polled said Massachusetts is prepared to deal with the effects, but only 6% said the state is very prepared while 47 percent said Massachusetts is somewhat prepared. Forty-one percent answered either not too prepared or not at all prepared. Among those polled, 63% said the effects of global warming have already begun to happen, with 3% saying effects will be felt within a few years, 7% answering “within your lifetime,” and 15% saying the effects will affect future generations.

The WBUR poll, conducted by the MassINC Polling Group, surveyed 504 registered voters in Massachusetts between March 16 and March 18.
