Transgender Truths

Bruce Jenner’s recent transition into Caitlyn Jenner has caught the attention of all news and social media articles. There are people who accept her decision and love the new Cait, but there are also people who disagree with the decision, and of course the ones who completely trash on all transgender people by calling them “sick” and “mentally ill."

While it is not everyone’s job to agree with anyone’s gender transition, it should be everyone’s job to at least be decent human beings about it. If a person wants to be called a different name and be referred to as a different pronoun than the one assigned to them at birth, the least we could do is respect their decision and call them by the correct pronouns. We call most singers and rappers by different names, so why can’t we do the same with regular people?
People that are not transgender have to realize one thing: THIS ISN’T ABOUT YOU. If it disgusts you, keep it to yourself. There is no beauty in trash-talking and mocking someone else’s life decision that does not affect you in any way, shape, or form. Others also need to realize that the definition of a hero is different to everyone. Just because Caitlyn Jenner might not fit the stereotypical hero box to you, doesn’t mean that she’s not one. In fact, she is probably saving the lives of many people who are having a hard time transitioning, and looks up to Caitlyn as inspiration.
Do not make someone else’s life choices to be happy, about you. Do not go out of your way to be a rude person and express your unneeded opinion, about how you are still going to call Bruce, Bruce. This is one of the reasons why people are struggling with their identities every day. Some children, teens, and adults might be too scared to come out to a world that has already made them feel like an abomination.
